The Minnesota Polish Medical Society is proud to partner once again with the JCC and the Jewish Film Festival for a special screening of Mama, a film selected for both the Cannes Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival.
At the heart of the story is Mila, a Polish housekeeper working in Israel who sends her earnings home even as she slowly becomes a stranger to her own family. Sinai subtly inverts the familiar migrant narrative: here, it is a mother, rather than a father, whose labor sustains her household yet distances her from the people she most wants to protect.
After years abroad, Mila leaves behind a luxurious seaside villa in Caesarea and returns to her family in a remote Polish village. But the long-awaited reunion is far…
