In the 56 pages of the Winter 2025 issue of Minnesota Polish Perspectives, we highlight the remarkable contributions of Polish-American physicians, scientists, artists, and cultural voices whose work continues to shape our shared community—now and for generations to come.
We feature Polish-American physicians and scientists, including Jan Czyżyk, M.D., Marzena Brinkmann, Ph.D., Wiesław Suszyński, and Jerzy Wyrobek, Ph.D. We are also pleased to present new interviews from the ongoing Kalejdoskop project. Among them is translator Sean Gaspar Bye, who reflects on how a distant family story, a seventh-grade research assignment, and a lasting fascination with grammar evolved into a lifelong act of cultural reclamation. This issue also profiles distinguished Twin Cities musician Tadeusz Majewski, whose artistic legacy continues to enrich Minnesota’s cultural landscape.
Elsewhere in these pages, Dr. Dominik Dąbrowski offers a Central European, cross-cultural reflection on the Latvian spirit, introducing readers to the country and its heritage. Artist Mary Welke invites readers into her creative journey through The Root Project. Kasia Leville shares impressions from the recent Twin Cities visit by Mikołaj Grynberg and Sean Bye, including reflections on Grynberg’s film screening. We also include a response to Lech Wałęsa’s recent visit to the Twin Cities and his enduring message on the importance of civic engagement.
In times like these, coming together—in understanding, solidarity, and reflection—is more important than ever. By sharing these stories, we strengthen our collective identity and carry it forward for future generations.
